Facebook: Go offline to others

Facebook is a global social networking website that is operated and privately owned by Facebook, Inc. Users can add friends and send them messages, and update their personal profiles to notify friends about themselves. Additionally, users can join networks organized by city, workplace, school, and region. The website's name stems from the colloquial name of books, blah blah blah...

Well, I'm not here to tell you a story about what where when of Facebook. Facebook is great. You can connect to people, friends, and to just anyone who has access to this Internet world and uses Facebook. You can also play games which makes you addictive to it without noticing. And what I really like is the chat feature. You chat anyone who is connected to your account. Just add up some people and you're ready to chat with them when they are online (of course, you should too ).

Problem 1:

But there's one thing I hate about this chat. When you logged in your account, your chat status went to available and everybody who's connected to you can now send you a message. Well it's fine when no one or only few people chat you at the same time. What makes it annoying is when, (for example you've won a lottery price) so many people chat to you at the same time when you just don't want them to. Blah blah blah... The point really here is sometimes, you just want to be online to some people and offline to others (for example, you're hiding to someone or you just want your privacy).

Solution 1:

First thing you can do is to go offline. You can do this by clicking Options on the chat box and click "Go offline".

Offline

And that's it, you are invisible to all your online friends.

Problem 2:

But that's really not a good thing to do especially when you want to chat to other people who's online on Facebook's chat ( for example your "boyfriends"/"girlfriends" ). You can just then go online and finding yourself wishing you did not because for some reason someone who you don't like just have a message for you making yourself like a volcano that's about to erupt (lol... annoying isn't it ? ).

Solution 2:

But don't worry to much. In every problem, there's always a solution. One thing you can do is to use the "Friend Lists" feature of the chat in Facebook. First thing you do is open chat box and click "Friend Lists" then create a new list by typing a name of a desired list (for example "go offline to them" ) and hitting Enter key. When you're done, a new item in the chat box will appear that says "Drag a friend here to add". Just do what it says. Drag someone in the chat box and put it the "Drag a friend here to add". Now you have added him/her to that list. What make this as a solution to our problem 2 is that on the upper right side of the list there is a green capsule like (green when you're online, grey for offline) button that you can be switch to go offline or online to those who are in that list. Click the button, and when it's green you are online and therefore visible to those who are in that list, grey if otherwise. Now that should fixed the problem.

  2. Offline

  3. Offline

Thanks for reading. Hope I did help someone.

Note:
If you would prefer that this friend no longer be able to contact you on Facebook, you can also block them by typing their name in the Block List search field at the bottom of the Privacy Settings page.
